LETTER TO THE EDITOR: A wise decision

I see that Malik Williams and Jaylen Butz have wisely decided to skip the Indiana high school all-star game so they can participate in their high school graduations. We have attended several graduations where the principal would inform the audience that certain seniors would not be walking with their classmates to receive their diplomas.

High school graduation is a once-in-a-lifetime event and the result of 12 years of hard work. We always felt sorry for the students who missed it so they could be in a track meet or tennis match.

Scheduling state-wide events around hundreds of graduation ceremonies is extremely difficult. That's easy to see. But maybe the IHSAA could suspend the events a few weeks so the students could walk with their classmates, accept their diplomas, and look up at the beaming faces of proud friends and relatives.
