Russ Jehl makes some very valid points about why we do not need more taxes in Fort Wayne. See the article on Page 6A of the News-Sentinel on May 31 or page 13A of the Journal Gazette on May 28. I also would like to add that if we live in the city, we pay an additional $20 when we purchase our auto license plates.

I agree with him that we do not need an arena downtown. We are going to have so many places that will be duplicating businesses, there are bound to be some closures. Do we want to lose the Embassy or the Grand Wayne Center? Will the library lose its parking? I urge people to write or call your council members and let them know how you feel.

I am glad Mr. Jehl is thinking about the neighborhood sidewalks and streets. We need those improvements.

The downtown area seems to think we all need to pay extra taxes so the downtown area can expand. Did you know that when a person comes into town, the first places they see are the areas outside the downtown and form their opinions about the town?

If seems we have plenty of money to make the improvements downtown and still have money for streets and sidewalks.

Thanks, Mr. Jehl, for thinking of the taxpayers. It is nice to think we have a friend on the Fort Wayne City Council.

Frances Fuller
