For the second straight game the Fort Wayne TinCaps clubbed three home runs. And for the second straight game the TinCaps fell to the Lansing Lugnuts. The teams split their four-game series with Lansing winning 9-7 on Monday at Parkview Field.
Trailing 4-0, Fort Wayne fought back and tied the score in the bottom of the second inning. Three consecutive singles by G.K. Young, Hudson Potts and Jack Suwinski loaded the bases with no outs. Rod Boykin's sacrifice fly drove in Young and Potts was able to score on the same play on a wild throw by Lansing right fielder J.B. Woodman. Marcus Greene Jr. tied the score at four with a two-run homer to left field. It was Greene's third homer of the season.
The TinCaps took the lead in the bottom of the third. For the second straight inning Young and Potts had back-to-back singles to start the inning. Young scored on a one-out single by Boykin to make it 5-4.
Lansing tied the score with a run in the top of the fifth off Pedro Avila who was making his Midwest League debut. Avila finished his outing with five runs allowed on eight hits in 5.2 innings while striking out six.
G.K. Young led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to left field to give Fort Wayne a 6-5 lead. It was Young's sixth home run of the season.
A three-run top of the seventh allowed the Lugnuts to take the lead 8-6. The last run of the inning scored on a strike out that eluded Greene, the TinCaps catcher. Reliever Diomer Lopez was given a wild pitch on the play.
Fort Wayne scored its final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out solo homer by Hudson Potts - his fourth of the season. The TinCaps didn't get a runner on base the rest of the game.
Young and Potts had three hits each to lead Fort Wayne, who had nine hits in the game. Other hits were by Suwinski, Boykin and Greene.
