The Fort Wayne TinCaps have been hitting with a lot of power lately. Unfortunately the teams three home runs Wednesday were in vain as Lake County beat the TinCaps 7-5 at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio. It was the fourth time in five games Fort Wayne has clubbed three home runs.
Jim McDade started on the mound for the TinCaps and turned in a solid performance. In six innings, McDade allowed only one earned run, but an error by shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. in the bottom of the third led to the Captains scoring three unearned runs. It should have been a 1-2-3 inning for McDade but Tatis’ one-out error kept the inning alive and Lake County took advantage of it. Gavin Collins did the most damage in the inning with a three-run homer.
Fort Wayne led 5-4 after six innings with the aid of three home runs. Marcus Greene Jr. hit a solo shot in the second, while Jorge Ona hit a two-run homer in the third and Jack Suwinski a solo in the sixth. It was the fourth home run of the season for all three and the third in four games for Greene.
Lake County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for the first time. A two-run triple by Miguel Eladio and an RBI-single by Li-Jen Chu provided the three runs and eventual 7-5 win.
Greene and Reinaldo Ilarraza each had two of the TinCaps’ seven hits. Adding one hit apiece were Ona, Suwinski and A.J. Kennedy.
